Grand Sculpture Salon 2012

On September 13, the Mystetsky Arsenal will launch the Grand Sculptor Salon, the largest art forum in Ukraine dedicated to the art of sculpture. It will be recalled that this is our country’s only artistic project which reflects the processes that are taking place in contemporary Ukrainian sculpture and makes the audience familiar with the works of world renowned sculptors whose names are part of the history of art by now. The Grand Sculpture Salon has been held in Kyiv since 2007.

This year it will display over 40 Ukrainian authors, says the press release of the Mystetsky Arsenal.

A special foreign guest of this year will be the British artist Zadok Ben-David. In 1988 he represented Israel at the Venice Biennale, and in 2008 he was elected the official sculptor of the Beijing Olympic Games. In 2010, Ben-David’s installation Human Nature in Tel-Aviv Museum attracted an unprecedented number of visitors and broke the record of attendance in the whole history of the museum. His works are being stored within respectful state and private collections of Europe, Eastern Asia, the United States of America, Israel, and Australia.

In Kyiv Zadok is going to present his solo exhibit, three grandiose installations, which the Ukrainian audience will see for the first time. The presented installations will include in particular Evolution and Theory with an area of 400 square meters. This is a composition made by sculptures sized from two centimeters to three meters and based on the illustrations from natural history text books of the 19th century. One more installation, Blackfield, will be created with the help of 17,000 flowers and will symbolize a cycle of life and death.

The Grand Sculpture Salon will last till September 23, 2012 at Mystetsky Arsenal.
